A major accident this morning on the R40
near Rockydrift in Nelspruit left seven people dead and one critically
injured.
It is believed that the taxi carrying the
passengers lost control and overturned.
ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said when
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene they discovered the wrecked taxi lying in
the veld.
Meiring said fifteen people lay around the
taxi with seven of the occupants sustaining fatal injuries. Eight other occupants also sustained injuries
ranging from moderate to critical.
“Paramedics had their hands full with the
various patients providing them with advance life support. One of the critically injured patient had to
be airlifted to hospital due to the serve injuries she had sustained” Meiring
added.
The exact details of the cause of the
accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
