The Congress of
South African Trade Union welcomed the ban on public figures doing business
with the state.
Cosatu
Spokesperson Patrick Craven said it becomes particularly toxic when public
figures or their close family members do business with public bodies.
Craven said
Cosatu has always been at the forefront of the fight against corruption for
many years.
Craven said we have
requested the public representatives particularly those at senior level
should not be involved in businesses at all because even if they are not doing
any business with the government it nevertheless affects their
judgement.
"Based on analytic to represent the people and specifically in the
case of the ANC they own the membership and their mandate must be the party’s
manifesto and conference resolution and they should never be influenced by the
fact that they have got big investment in companies which may have decent interests,”
Craven added.
