The Democratic Alliance said a reply to its question to the Minister of Police Nkosinathi Nhleko regarding the number of police members who have been convicted or has criminal offences in the last year has revealed a serious problem within the SAPS.

DA MP of Police Dianne Kohler Barnard said Minister Nhleko does not know how many cops have been convicted in the last year as the figures are not readily available.

Barnard said the country can not afford to have police officers that are criminals and the Minister himself does not know anything about this and this needs to be investigated.

She added that the DA will be writing to Parliament and this needs to be finalsed sooner.
