Western Cape Premier and leader of the Democratic Alliance Helen Zille have announced that Independent Democrats leader Patricia de Lille will be joining the province’s cabinet as social development MEC.

The announcement was made at a press conference in Cape Town earlier this afternoon.

DA member of parlament Albert Fritz has been appointed community safety MEC and Lennit Max will swap places with him and become a member of the national Parliament.

Premier Helen Zille declined to give reasons for her provincial cabinet reshuffle and says she doesn’t have to explain her decision making.

Meanwhile, Patricia de Lille says she is happy with her new appointed and wants to assure the people of the Western Cape that as has been the case with every challenge I have faced over the past 30 years, I am ready to take up this challenge.
