A suspect has been arrested and several others are on the run folllowing a cash in transit robberty in Durbanville, Cape Town this morning.
Captain Frederick van Wyk said, “The suspects blocked the cash in transit vehicle near a petrol garage and opened fire on security guard hitting him in the stomach whislt collecting cash from a store at the Kenridge Shopping Centre.”
The suspects fled the scene in a gold Mercedes Benz with an undisclosed amount of money.
The police’s flying squad spotted the vehicle on the R300 and chased after them.
One suspect was arrested and a firearm was recovered.
Van wyk said. “ the other suspects were off with the cash before police could arrest them.”
No further injuries were reported.
A case of armed robbery has been opened and the suspect will soon appear in court once he’s been charged.
