Lusanda Bill
16 October 2010
Yesterday was the start of the meeting between government and the South African National Editors’ Forum, on media freedom and communication between government and the media.
Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe said “The SA government remained fully committed to the Constitution and had no intention whatsoever of doing anything that would undermine freedom of the media and of expression”.
The Protection of Information Bill and the ruling ANC's talk of a statutory print Media Appeals Tribunal has received criticism from the media, many believing if the bill is passed it would mean that media freedom in the country is under threat.
Sanef chairman Mondli Makhanya said "As media our commitment is to a democratic South Africa and an open society with a free flow of information and exchange of ideas."
