Angry protesters burned tyres and rubble blocking off an exit at the N2 in the Western Cape this morning.
Baden Powell drive has been closed between Lansdowne and Mew Way. Motorists have been urged to avoid the road.
According to media reports residents of Khayelitsha had warned if their service delivery demands were not met by the beginning of October, they would declare a month of protests in informal settlements.
Metro police are patrolling the area and the road remains closed.
No arrests have been made.
