The South African National Defence Force has announced that Major General Zakes Msimang will be the next Chief of the Air Force.
Msimang takes over from chief, Lieutenant General Carlo Gagiano on the 1st of October this year.
Msimang`s father is the former ANC treasurer Mendi Msimang.
Military analyst Helmoed Heitman says Msimang has all the necessary credentials to take this position.
He says he has worked with Msimang for a very long time and he has commanded an air base before.
