Trade Union Solidarity has called on mining group Aquarius Platinum to implement a social plan to prevent about 1 500 employees losing their jobs.

This follows the closure of the Everest mine near Lydenburg.

Trade union Solidarity says contractor Mkwedini Limited will not be able to provide other jobs.

Solidarity’s Louis Pretorius says national government needs to intervene to assist the employees.
