ER24 paramedics attended to several incidents which left five people dead and several others injured.
On Saturday evening paramedics received calls that a tornado is moving through large parts of the Free State.
ER24’s Werner Vermaak said that the tornado could not be confirmed at the time.
Vermaak said they later found that in Oranjeville a man died and four other people were injured when a building collapsed.
In a bus accident in Bethlehem it could not be determined if the accident was caused by strong winds.
Vermaak said that four people died in the accident and 58 others were injured.
In another incident, a lion camp was destroyed by strong winds.
Vermaak said all the lions have been recaptured and moved back into a safe area.
