Officials on Tuesday said it will take some time before the police's investigation into the Hex River Pass bus crash is completed.

Twenty-four people were killed when a bus left the road and overturned on the N1 highway outside De Doorns on Friday last week.

The police's Andre Traut said it was not clear when the probe will be finalized.

Traut adds that it is widely believed the bus's brakes may have failed.

He explains that the circumstances surrounding the bus accident are being investigated.

“Due to the severity and the nature of the case, the investigation it is very difficult  for the investigation to be completed within the next few days,” Traut said.

Furthermore Traut explains a case of culpable homicide accident has been registered.
