Minister of Transport Ben Martins has called for caution as schools close for the Easter holidays.

Martins said road users needed to obey all the rules of the road.

Ministerial Spokesperson Tiyani Rikhotso said as part of government’s programme and the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011 to 2020 campaign to reduce road deaths, the department will focus on various aspects this season.

Rikhotso said roads are a shared space for all members of the public and courtesy needs to be extended to one another as we embark on journeys across the country.

“As much as we would want to have an all year-round campaign on road safety, it is important that during traffic peak season that we heighten our messages and law-enforcement initiatives” Rikhotso added.
