A provisional report by the Public Protector concerning the South African Bureau of Standards has been leaked.

This report is based on a 2001 customer complaint leveled against the SABS by a number plate manufacturer.

The department of Trade and Industry said it is concerned about the leak of the report to the media.

Ministerial Spokesperson Sidwell Medupe said it must be noted that the nature of the compliant referred to the historical whole of the SABS as a regulator.

Medupe added that this matter does not question the technicality of the Bureau, the SABS should be the number 1 castered mark of approval that is celebrated over the world.
