Cape Chamber of Commerce calling for stricter road and driving regulations

The Cape Chamber of Commerce has called on the Department of Transport to enforce stricter road and driving regulations.

This as the department has proposed a zero blood-alcohol limit for drivers.

The proposed limit has been put up for public comment last month and has yet to go to Parliament for a debate.

President of Cape Chamber Janine Myburgh said unless there was a dramatic improvement in enforcement, the further reduction of alcohol limits would make no difference.

Myburgh said “we believe however we need to re-energise all efforts to enforce existing legislation before we will be in a position to make a judgement or adjustments to blood alcohol limits.

We call for stricter enforcement of road and driving regulations rather than a zero limit for alcohol consumption by drivers, Myburgh added.
