The Cape Chamber of Commerce
has called on the Department of Transport to enforce stricter road and driving
regulations.
This as the department has
proposed a zero blood-alcohol limit for drivers.
The proposed limit has been put up for public
comment last month and has yet to go to Parliament for a debate.
President of Cape Chamber
Janine Myburgh said unless there was a dramatic improvement in enforcement, the
further reduction of alcohol limits would make no difference.
Myburgh said “we believe however we need to
re-energise all efforts to enforce existing legislation before we will be in a
position to make a judgement or adjustments to blood alcohol limits.
We call for stricter enforcement of road and
driving regulations rather than a zero limit for alcohol consumption by
drivers, Myburgh added.
