3 arrested following a business robbery in Goodwood

Three suspects and a security officer are currently in hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds as a result of a shootout between the suspects, security officers and police members on Saturday

The police’s Joseph Swartbooi said that the manager of a retail store in Voortrekker road in Goodwood, accompanied by a security officer were surprised by three armed suspects at around 05:30, who forced them inside the store.

‘’Concerned security officers on the outer perimeter called for backup when they became suspicious. The suspects fled, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire. Goodwood police patrol vehicle, busy with patrols, were caught in the crossfire with a gunshot damaging the body of the vehicle, leaving the officers unharmed. Three firearms were confiscated on the scene,’’ said Swartbooi.

Once charged, the three suspects are expected to appear in Goodwood Magistrates’ court on charges of business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition
