Western Cape Premier Urges President to Ease Restrictions in the Province

The Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has asked President Cyril Ramaphosa to ease off lockdown restrictions in Cape Town because of an ease in the province covid19 infections. This is also done to help build up the economy, to help tackle job security in the province and to the country as well.

"It is the urgent next step now that we have exited our third wave peak. However, it will not be enough. International experience has made it clear that a rapid vaccination programme with significant reach will enable a full reopening of the economy, especially for international tourism. This is desperately needed in the Western Cape, in particular," Alan Winde added.

Winde highlighted that the Western Cape data with new cases were showing consisted declines and it is time for lockdown levels to be restricted. He also thanked the province's healthcare workers for their courage and 99% probability that the Western Cape has already passed the peak of the third wave.
