Former President Jacob Zuma’s Arms deal trial postponed

The trial of Former President Jacob Zuma arms deal corruption trial has been postponed to the 21st and 22nd of September at the Pietermaritzburg High Court. Zuma has pleaded not guilty to corruption, racketeering, fraud, tax evasion, and money laundering charges. He is accused of taking bribes from French company Thales.

He was granted medical parole earlier this week on his 15-month jail term for contempt of court in a separate matter.

After a virtual hearing, all parties agreed that the matter be postponed. The postponement was warranted because of Zuma’s ill-health. The matter, to be heard in open court, is expected to hear the special plea application by Zuma for the withdrawal of State prosecutor Billy Downer who is accused of alleged bias against Zuma..
