Western Cape Government Aims To Put Emphasis On Under 18s to Get Vaccinated

The Western Cape Government aims to put emphasis on young people to get vaccinated as spikes of Covid19 infections seem to be on the rise in the youth under the age of 20  years old in the province. On the 20th of August, the government already announced it had approved 18 to 34 year olds can be eligible to get vaccinated. The vaccination for this age group was scheduled for the 1st of September.

According to a report from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), the spike on this younger age group under 18 year olds may be caused by the cluster at schools, travelling from or to other provinces and reopening of public and private schools.

A campaign #jabsb4Jol by the Western Cape Health MEC Nomafrench Mbombo will be taking place in one of the popular spots in Cape Town to help make vaccination more appealing to the youth.

As of report, the Western Cape is on 30, 042 confirmed cases and 18, 330 deaths. While South Africa is on 2.78 million confirmed Covid19 cases and 82.261 deaths as of 31 August 2021.
