Bonteheuwel man arrested for being in possession of a hand grenade.

Bishop Lavis police arrested a 55-year-old man on Thursday morning, for being in possession of a hand grenade.

‘’ Bishop Lavis police reacted on a tipoff and searched a residence in Bonteheuwel this morning at around 11:00. This search resulted in the discovery of a hand grenade buried in the yard,’’ said SAPS spokesperson, Ndakwe Gwala.

SAPS said the circumstances surrounding the discovery are still under investigation. Once charged, the suspect is expected to make his court appearance in Bishop Lavis.

Bonteheuwel Ward Councillor, Angus Mckenzie, thanked officials for their swift action.

‘’Once again we must applaud the community for working with our Law Enforcement Agencies in Bonteheuwel.’’
