Emmanuel Maroga a 12-year-old boy from Steelpoort Primary School in Limpopo has died, after collapsing on the athletics field.
Maroga was one of the top long-distance athletes in his school.
He was training for an event called the Mariepskop which will be taking place on Saturday, when he collapsed.
Principal Anton Alberts said “teachers who saw Maroga collapsing immediately carried out mouth-to-mouth resuscitation after finding no pulse. After continued resuscitation, he had a weak pulse, but died thereafter”.
When emergency services arrived on the scene the boy had already died.
The cause of his death is still not known.
