Lusanda Bill
20 January 2011
Quarterly reviews of mismanaged provincial departments and state-owned enterprises are on they way, the Auditor-General Terence Nombembe announced yesterday.
Terence Nombembe said “Instead of coming and reviewing them in a bundle at the end of the year we will confirm that, for instance, the accounting officers are looking at what they should be looking at.
Most of the issues that we’re highlighting here are coming about because of basic disciplines not being in place.”
Wasteful expenditure in the public entities came to over R116 million in the years 2009 and 2010.
Nombembe stated that although quarterly reviews will create an overload in the work, it is necessary.
