The Department of Correctional Services wants to set up a regional medical parole boards.
Civil Society Prison Reform Initiative spokesperson Clare Ballard said immediate changes needed to be made “to remedy the problem whereby inexperienced doctors are attending to potential medical parolees."
The Correctional Matters Amendment Bill is currently before Parliament.
The Bill sets to make clear when are prisoners qualified to be released from jail due to health reasons.
