Cape Town commuters are up in arms over some taxi drivers increasing the taxi fare after 8pm.
Commuters say they are being exploited and that divers are doing this for their own pockets.
The Western Cape Taxi Council has defended taxi operators for the increase in taxi fare and said the money went to regulators who worked overtime.
Council spokesperson Mvuyise Mente said drivers were allowed to increase their fares as regulators must be compensated.
Western Cape Transport MEC Robin Carlisle said he wanted to see the city’s busses and trains extend their services so they could stop the after hours monopoly of taxis.
