According to the Department of Home Affair, they have received at least 58 100 Zimbabwean applications for passports.
Out of these, 16 427 have already been issued.
Home Affairs Director General Mkuseli Apleni says an estimated 350 applicants wanting to legalise their stay in the country per day don’t have a passports.
The department is optimistic that it will achieve the June 30 deadline put for the documentation of Zimbabweans living in South Africa.
