Members of the Hangberg community in Hout Bay, Cape Town have laid charges of assault against members of the security forces.
There were violent clashes between community members and the police when the municipality demolished a number of shacks that were declared illegal.
Eighteen people have been injured in the protests as police officials fired rubber bullets at crowds throwing stones at them.
Media reports that Western Cape community safety minister, Albert Fritz, says a docket has been opened and the case would be referred to the Independent Complaints Directorate.
