In Lenasia this morning a woman and her 7-year-old son were burnt to death beyond recognition in a shack fire.
Spokesman Percy Morokane says neighbours heard the boy screaming just past midnight and they found him inside the burning shack.
Neighbours in Thembelihle near Lenasia have blamed the mother of the child for the death.
The neighbours have stated that Tuesday was pay day for social grants and the woman used the money to buy alcohol.
The cause of the fire is still not known, and police are investigating.
