The Hawks seized R1 million and two luxury vehicles when they arrested five suspects believed to be selling illicit cigarette in the North West.

The suspects appeared in court earlier this week and were released on R100 000 bail each.

The suspects are accused of leading a syndicate that smuggled illicit cigarettes between South Africa and Botswana.

Captain Paul Ramaloko said the syndicate were arrested after intensive investigation conducted by Hawks in the North West Province.

“We confiscated R1.1 million in cash. Five of these syndicates were released on R100 000 bail each.” Ramaloko added
