The Western Cape government has launched a petition to end gang violence in the province with community members in Delft signing the petition.

Provincial government says the petition is aimed at securing support for interventions like deployment of the army as a short term measure.

Democratic Leader in the Western Cape Ivan Meyer said the long term solution to gangsterism lies in social upliftment.

Meyer said the petition calls for three things: call for the specialized  gang units, specialised units, calling for more police reservists to be deployed, because police visibility is much needed.
