Western Cape MEC of Finance,
Economic Development and Tourism Alan Winde says power outages represent a
significant cost to the South African economy.
MEC Winde said the Green Economy
Strategic Framework seeks to position the province as the lowest carbon
province in the country and drive job creation in this sector.
Ministerial Spokesperson Bronwynne
Jooste said safe there are indications that Eskom’s power supply is still under
strain so we may face a crisis and continued outages into the winter of 2014.
“That’s why, here in the Western
Cape we invest in renewable energy so that we
can move away from the reliance of coal,” Jooste added.
