HPV vaccine in the spotlight

The African Christian Democratic Party has called for the HPV vaccine roll-out to stop because the long term effects are not known.

The National department of Health is rolling out the vaccine to Grade 4 pupils in public schools to prevent cervical cancer.

ACDP MP Cheryllyn Dudley said they are not sure that safety concerns have been adequately investigated.

Dudley said it is shocking young girls and woman should be used as guinea pigs in this global experiment.  We may only know the full implications in twenty or thirty years from now.

“It is unacceptable that parents are expected to accept that this vaccine is in their child’s best interest without the necessary information needed to make an informed decision” Dudley added.

Meanwhile the National Department of Health says the call by the ACDP is unfair because enough research and safety precaution was taken before the vaccine roll-out started.

Minsterial Spokesperson Joe Maila said the HPV is important to prevent cervical cancer.

Maila said this is one of those things that will make sure that we prevent diseases because the cancers that are caused by the HPV are way too many and kills a lot of woman in this country.
