The Western Cape Department of Education
has appointed about one hundred additional foundation phase teachers.
Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said
these additional teachers have been brought for two reasons, and one of those
reasons is as part of the WCED’s strategic objective to improving language and
mathematics in foundation phase.
Casey said the additional teaching posts in
foundation phase are also to alleviate pressures of the high grade one
enrolment in 2014. Our enrolment went from 107 000 to over 111 000
this year.
“These posts will cost the department
approximately R30 million and have been done regarding saving that we have actual
saved within the department” Casey added.
