Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba on Monday launched the Johannesburg Visa Facilitation Centre. The department has established 11 Visa Facilitation Centers across all nine provinces with Gauteng and the Western Cape having two due to the high volume of applications.

Minister Gigaba said the new system introduced in the department will go a long way in helping with curbing corruption.

Gigaba said the home affairs department is a learning department, so the previous visa regulation application system had some elements of corruption. In this way we will be able to curb possible acts of corruption.

Meanwhile Minister Gigaba said they are building on the work they have done since they embarked on the modernization of Home Affairs by bringing more technological innovation to improve services.

He added that there has been a great response to the new system with 4 000 applications received in June alone.

Visa applicants have been urged to bear with the department as this is a new system and is bound to have technical glitches.

Gigaba added that the hand-over of applications to the VFS has been very smoothly and the results are beginning to show.
