Raging fire spreading to Hout Bay

Cape Town firefighters are continuing to try and contain a fire which started in Muizenberg and has not spread to Hout Bay.

Additional firefighters have been deployed to Cape Town as roads including Chapman’s Peak Drive have been closed.

An old age home and certain homes based on the fire line have also been evacuated.

City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Theo Layne said at the moment we still have the fire heading towards Hout Bay but also a section of it has gone over to Constantia’s neck side Tokai forest to be exact.

Layne said what has happened now is that we have had to redeploy some of the vehicles to that area. We’ve also requested that all the helicopters on the scene go to the area of the fire and water bomb that section.
