Angry residents of Marikana in the North West have vowed not to vacate the houses they are illegally occupying under a multi-million of rands Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) housing project.
This is despite government's efforts to seek a court eviction order.
The residents have accused government officials of manipulating the list of beneficiaries, in favour of those who have political ties. Government spokesperson Ben Bole said

"We need just the municipality, just to come and register out people. Those who have already occupy the houses just come and register. People are being allocated houses without procedure being followed, we asked one question how come that the ANC give people houses, when the project itself not complete."
