Eight people have died on Western Cape roads this weekend as the provincial traffic department hold regular weekend roadblocks to intensify their campaign against drunken driving and speeding.

Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said  they conducted 24 roadblocks in various areas, where 26 drunken drivers were arrested.

Africa adds that about 800 motorists were arrested for exceeding the speed limit.

Furthemore Africa says they want to clamp down on lawlessness on the road.

“Eight people are too many and we are urging our motorists once again to please be careful when out there especially when you got passengers in your vehicle, take care of your passengers, do not overtake vehicles at places where it is unsafe to do so,’ said Africa.
