Seventeen people injured in an accident near George

A three vehicle collision occurred on the N2 this morning in the Southern Cape between Pacaltsdorp and Thembalethu.

It is alleged that, one bakkie collided into the back of another Corsa bakkie which was transporting school children.

A third vehicle then is believed to have collided into the initial accident, and two pedestrians were knocked down.

ER24 Spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said paramedics found that most of the school children, between the ages of 15 and 16, had been ejected from the back of the bakkie and lay injured across the N2 highway.

Jackson also said the injured suffered only moderately serious injuries and they were rapidly transported to the George Provincial Hospital.

She added that two learners were seriously injured out of the seventeen patients.

The remaining thirteen school children and the pedestrians had suffered only moderate injuries and they were all transported to the George Provincial Hospital by the various ambulance services who attended the scene.
Jackson added that the drivers of the three vehicles involved are believed to have sustained minor injuries only and they were not taken to hospital by ambulance.

The circumstances surround the cause of the accident are unknown and the police are investigating.
