Domestic Workers on Wednesday protested outside the Cape Town Magistrate Court against Andre van Deventer who allegedly used the k-word when referring to his partner’s domestic worker.

The case was postponed until November 5th.

SA Domestic Service and Allied Workers Union General Secretary Myrtle Witbooi said the courts have a duty to deal swiftly and ruthlessly with individuals and groups of people who by their actions show that they are still racist.

Witbooi said they hope the case will be finalised in November and that Gloria Kente can get some closure.

“We hope this sends out a clear message to employers that domestic workers will now speak out for themselves and that they won’t be abused any longer” Witbooi added.
