President Jacob Zuma has granted Independent Electoral Commission Chairperson Pansy Tlakula leave of absence.
This is after Advocate Tlakula asked for
the leave following recommendations by the Electoral Court that she be
removed from office.
A report by Public Protector Thuli
Mandonsela found that Tlakula had played a role in the irregular procurement of
the IEC head office in Centurion. Several political parties approached the
court for the chairperson to resign.
Advocate Tlakula said she will appeal the judgement.
Presidential Spokesperson Mac Maharaj said
the president has granted the special leave of absence until a final decision
on her fitness to hold office as chairperson of the commission is made.
