A man was killed and 2 others injured yesterday morning after a truck collided head-on on the N3 near the Liberty Mall in Pietermaritzburg.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says ER24 paramedics arrived on scene to find a bakkie lying crushed in the middle of the road with a truck parked near the roadside barriers.

He says on assessment, paramedics found the lifeless body of the male driver lying trapped inside the bakkie. Unfortunately the man had already succumbed to his injuries prior to the arrival of paramedics.

On further assessment, paramedics found that both occupants from the truck had sustained moderate injuries. The patients were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to Northdale Hospital for further treatment.

The deceased body was later removed from the vehicle by fire services using the jaws-of-life. Local authorities were on scene to investigate further.
Meanwhile, 3 men have been killed and 29 others injured this morning after a bakkie and trailer crashed into a tree on the N3 near Town Hill in Pietermaritzburg.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel says on arrival paramedics found a bakkie and trailer crushed up against a tree.

Occupants that had been sitting in the back of the bakkie as well as the trailer were found scattered around the scene. 3 men were found trapped inside the bakkie.

On assessment paramedics found that all 3 men had unfortunately succumbed to their fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for the patients.

Their bodies were later removed by rescue services using the jaws-of-life equipment. 29 other patients were found scattered on scene, their injuries ranging from serious to minor.
