The Democratic Alliance says it will lay criminal charges against the
African National Congress’s Chancellor House over $6 million Hitachi bribe.
In 2007, Hitachi Ltd won a R38.5 billion tender to provide Eskom with
boilers for the Medupi and Kusile power stations. Last night they confessed to
have made improper payments to the ANC’s investment company, the Chancellor
House in the process leading up to the tender being awarded.
In a statement issued, the DA says, reports late yesterday evening
claim that Hitachi Ltd agreed to pay $19 million to settle charges brought
against it by the U.S Securities and Exchange Commission which alleged
inaccurately recorded improper payments to the ANC via the Chancellor House.
“The DA will be laying criminal charges against Chancellor House with
this regard. The DA will also be writing to the Public Protector, Thuli
Madonsela, requesting that her office institute an investigation into this
matter with immediate effect.”, Mmusi Maimane’s acting spokesperson Graham
Charters said.
