A man killed after vehicle plangud 60 metres off the Franschhoek Pass

A man was killed after his vehicle plunged roughly 60 metres off the Franschhoek Pass in Franschhoek in the Western Cape yesterday.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring says “ER24 paramedics, along with Fire and Metro Services, found an SUV lying on its roof well alight roughly 60 metres down a large embankment.

Emergency personnel made their way down the embankment and extinguished the blaze.

Meiring says “One the blaze had been extinguished, paramedics found the body of a male lying inside the vehicle.”

Unfortunately, the man had succumbed to his fatal burn wounds. Nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead on scene.”

He adds that “It is understood that two members of the local authorities had witnessed the incident. It is believed that they attempted to remove the patient from the vehicle, but were unsuccessful”

However, local authorities were on scene for further investigations, Meriring concluded.
