Eskom says maintenance on the
power grid will continue over the long weekend, but overall unplanned outages
have decreased drastically for the first time in years. The utility has managed
to avoid load shedding for several months now, focusing on maintenance and its
build programme.
“Over the last 7 months, we have not had load shedding and the reason
for this primarily is that we have been doing a lot of maintenance on our power
generating unit and by virtue of us doing more maintenance it means that we are
avoiding the out planned outages”, Khulu Phasiwe of Eskom explained.
“Which is why over the last 7 months, the power system has been
relatively stable”, He added.
“This weekend which is a long weekend we’re are going to do another
round of what we call a maintenance festival”, He concluded.
