President Jacob Zuma will be
in Parliament today in a question and answer session with Members of Parliament
within revelations that the Gupta family had been trying to influence Cabinet
appointments. President Zuma is expected in
the National Assembly Chamber in the afternoon at 14:00.
This follows Deputy Minister
of Finance Mcebisi Jonas's confirmation on Wednesday that he was offered the
finance ministry job by the Guptas.
However, Jonas said he
rejected the offer. The Gupta family denied meeting Jonas and accused him of
lying. The family has challenged Jonas to provide proof of the meeting. The
presidency is yet to comment on the matter.
Opposition parties are calling
for a judicial inquiry into the Gupta family’s involvement in affairs of state
and say that Parliament should also launch its own investigation.
