Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan hosted a breakfast debate around his budget speech today.
Gordhan told his guests that the state could not be held solely responsible for creating jobs and growing the economy.
He also said that South Africans must start taking the initiatives around entrepreneurship, creating employment opportunities and stimulating the economy.
Gordhan further said that the economic crisis in Europe will probably drag on longer than anyone initially predicted.
Gordhan said the private sector and ordinary South Africans cannot look to government to be solely responsible for economic growth.
