Western Cape Education Department today said that they are assisting staff and learners at a school in Mfuleni.

This comes after a foreman allegedly raped a grade two learner at the School.

Police said that the 56-year-old caretaker appeared in court after being arrested last week.

The suspect allegedly raped the eight-year-old girl at the school on more than one occasion.

The Education Department's Bronagh Casey said that they are shocked and horrified by these allegations.

Casey also said they  had arranged for a psychologist and social worker to visit the school and council the alleged victim and any other learners.

Casey further said they have attained some information about the suspect.
