Long distance bus companies have decided to meet with police to discuss ways in which they can stop drug mules from using their services to smuggle drugs.

This comes after low cost bus company DMJ reported many cases where drugs are smuggled from the Eastern Cape to Cape Town.

Police say it can be difficult to arrest anyone after drugs is found because bus companies do not put name tags on their luggage.

The manager of DMJ Nonzuzo Juwambi said most of the time dagga is confiscated.
