A three vehicle pile-up on
Old Faure Road
on a bridge crossing at Drift Sands left two men dead and one man critically injured.

The accident occurred over the Easter weekend.

Netcare 911`s Jeffrey Wicks said that the accident may be attributed to wet weather conditions.

Wicks also said that the cause of the accident and the series of events preceding it remain uncertain and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.

Wicks further said common cause information indicates that a bakkie and light motor vehicle collided head-on on the bridge.

Wicks added that the driver of first bakkie was heavily entrapped in the wreckage of the vehicle and was fighting for his life.

Metro Rescue Technicians set about to remove him while medics manoeuvred in and around the wreckage to initiate care.

Wicks said that once freed he was treated and stabilised at the scene and transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further treatment.
