Since Sunday the Western Cape department of health appointed a new service provider for the pre-packing of chronic medication.

The service is not new to patients, but it’s only a new service provider.

Last month the department took various steps to ease the delivery of the number of patients or parcels prescriptions during the transitional period.

This has relived a lot of the need for patients to collect their new month’s supply of medicines during the first two weeks of April.

The department’s Faiza Steyn said if there is a patient who is unable to access their chronic medication; the department has set up a helpline to assist patients during this period.

She added that the helpline is manned by a pharmacist who will be able to give telephonic advice regarding the nearest facility who provides 24 hour services.

The helpline number is 083 472 9300.
