The National Sea Rescue Institute in Port Elizabeth responded to a boat which capsized on Swartkops River.
This comes after red distress flares were sighted near the vicinity.
The NSRI’s Craig Lambinon said when rescue crews arrived at the scene they found that two fishing boats had submerged because of unidentified objects while exiting the river mouth.
Lambinon says all twelve people on board were recovered. Two are being treated for injuries.
