Presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj has refused to confirm or deny that President Jacob Zuma held a meeting with Bheki Cele on Friday.
Cele's spokesperson Vuyo Mkhize is quoted as confirming that the suspended national police commissioner had requested the meeting which took place in Durban.
It is understood that the two had discussed a dignified exit for the former top cop following Zuma’s decision to relieve him of his duties.
It is not yet clear when the President plans to officially announce Cele's axing.
